Collagen Induction Therapy

also known as microneedling or skin needling

Who are the ideal candidates for CIT?

The ideal candidates for this cosmetic procedure are those who are suffering from aesthetic concerns associated with the loss of collagen fibres, like premature ageing signs (e.g. enlarged pores, fine lines, dullness, dehydration, age spots, etc.), inelastic skin, uneven skin tone, and scars from chicken pox, acne, surgeries, or injuries. Patients who are affected by hair loss will also benefit greatly from this cosmetic procedure.

What is Collagen Induction Therapy?

Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)—also known as microneedling or skin needling—is a skin rejuvenating cosmetic procedure that involves repeatedly poking the skin with tiny needles. These needles are precisely engineered to resemble acupuncture needles to produce micro holes in the skin. This therapy is paired with a skin reinvigorating solution that contains a cocktail of ingredients like hyaluronic acid, plant polyphenols, and multivitamins to improve the production of collagen fibres via neocollagenesis

How is CIT performed?

Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is commenced after the treatment area had been completely sanitised. Next, the chosen skin-rejuvenating topical solution is applied on the skin. The dermaroller device is then run across the skin to create multiple precise pinpricks that will greatly maximise solution penetration. These minute skin punctures together with the skin-nourishing solution trigger a cascade of growth factors that reinvigorate the formation of new blood vessels and collagen fibers. The skin then appears brighter, younger, and radiant once the initial redness and irritation subsides.

What to expect after CIT

CIT isn’t as invasive as plastic surgery, and the recovery time is minimal. Most people require very little downtime if any at all.

* You may notice skin irritation and redness within the first few days following the procedure. This is a natural response to the small “injuries” made by the needles in your skin.

* You can go back to your daily routines after the procedure if you’re comfortable. It’s best to let your skin heal before applying makeup.

* Your skin will also be more sensitive to the sun, so be sure to apply sunscreen. Still, it’s recommended that you wait one week before exposing your skin to sunlight and harsh chemicals.

* After your CIT T, your skin works fairly quickly to rejuvenate new tissue. In theory, you should see results within a couple of weeks.

* To maintain the results of your treatment, you’ll need multiple sessions and perhaps other complementing treatments. Your therapist will work with you to develop a plan of action based on your individual goals.

* Following your therapists treatment plan and homecare routine, the results can last 6-12 months after your course, before any top-up sessions are required.

CIT/Microneedling is contraindicated if you experience any of the following:

Active acne

Herpes labialis (cold sores) or any other local infection such as warts

Chronic skin disease such as eczema or psoriasis

Extreme keloidal (raised scar) tendency

A blood disease or disorder

You’re taking an anticoagulant (blood thinning) medication

You’re a patient undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy
